Rachael Floyd, 36, Of Oak Grove Remembered After Petal Flash Flood Near Byrd Boulevard On Monday Afternoon
The Petal community mourns Rachael Floyd, a 36-year-old Oak Grove resident who died during a sudden flash flood on Monday afternoon.
Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem confirmed Floyd as the only person who died in the incident, and officials said no autopsy will take place.
The incident happened near the Petal Walmart on Byrd Boulevard, where fast-rising water overtook a white SUV with Floyd inside.
Witnesses tried to help as conditions worsened, but the strong current carried the vehicle away.
Crews later recovered Floyd’s body on the opposite side of Highway 42 near Strahan’s, and emergency teams retrieved the submerged SUV hours afterward.
Friends, relatives, and neighbors now remember Rachael Floyd as a valued community member whose life touched many people.
Memorial service details will be announced later by family members.
